#1 Demet Karabulut Dede
Dr. Demet Karabulut Dede is an assistant professor at Istanbul Bilgi University. She was a Fulbright visiting scholar at Princeton University, Department of English Language and Literature from 2023-2024. Dr. Karabulut Dede completed her postdoctoral research at the University of Exeter, her PhD at Ankara University, her MA at Istanbul Bilgi University, and her BA at Istanbul University. Dr. Karabulut Dede's specialty is literary modernism, and her work is at the intersection of modernist literature and spatial studies, with a particular focus on alternative modernities.
He is currently working on two book projects. First project, Modernist Continuities: Virginia Woolf and Women in TurkeyIt examines Virginia Woolf's literary, artistic and intellectual influence in Turkey, exploring the literary networks built around Woolf's works and her role in the women's movement in Turkey. Imperial Encounters: The Ottoman and Byzantine Empires in Modernist Writing The second book project examines how the concept of 'the East' and different approaches to the 'Orient' shaped Britain's understanding of modernity. This is analyzed through the reception of the Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman Empire in various texts.
