Ottoman Feminism: Women's Journals and White Conferences
"Unless our law is recognized by the general public, Women's World It cannot open its pages to men. We would like to see the advice and guidance of men who want to be interested in the development of our womanhood in men's newspapers that are indifferent to us."
"Ladies, I thank you on behalf of all womanhood, and even on behalf of the lips that are forever silent in their land. I see that not a single chair is left empty. This means that we have twice as many, three times as many intellectual minds and nurses who will respond to the invitation. Oh! What a happy sign this is. There are three hundred of us today, aren't there, ladies? So I am not deceived at all, and with this courage I claim that if they were aware of our gathering, three hundred thousand or even million women would join us, at least in their hearts. Therefore, if I, with these few lectures I will give, can help three thousand of my friends with the truth, why can't you, why shouldn't this power be expected from you? Three thousand people for each person shows with a very clear, very low calculation that with three thousand of each of us, we will be the support of nine million hearts, especially of the women's initiative, right? And is this a small force? Here is a new lever force that will tear the universe off its axis despite Archimedes. Today we are actually starting with three hundred; tomorrow, we will definitely start with three thousand, the next day with six thousand... Finally, one day, we will start with the whole mass of women" (White Conferences).
The talk will focus on the struggle for the rights of our grandmothers before the Republic, and will discuss Ottoman feminism in its various dimensions through women's magazines and conferences (White Conferences).
